Astronomers led by Austin Hoag, a UC Davis graduate student, have discovered one of the most distant galaxies in the universe.

Physics graduate student Cina Aghamohammadi was awarded the 2017 Biruni Prize by the Iranian-American Physics Network (IrAP). The award is part of the IrAP long term plan for promoting and recognizing outstanding research by Iranian physics graduate students in United States.

Jim Crutchfield is part of a collaboration with Intel Corp and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs’ NERSC supercomputer center that is co-developing algorithms to model and predict climate on one of the world’s largest supercomputers.

Astronomers have just made a new measurement of the Hubble constant, the rate at which the universe is expanding, and it doesn’t quite line up with a different estimate of the same number.

The honor recognizes outstanding scholarship and academic contributions to the campus.
