Ryan Sanders, postdoctoral scholar working with Professor Tucker Jones in observational astronomy, was just named a Hubble Fellow.

There will be no in-person undergraduate courses at UC Davis at the start of spring term. Even if in-person instruction is allowed to restart mid-quarter, all students will be able to complete the quarter online. This includes lab classes.

Philip M. Yager, professor emeritus of physics, passed away March 1, 2020. He was 81. Phil Yager earned a PhD in physics from the University of California, San Diego, in 1973. He joined the University of California, Davis, as an Assistant Professor of Physics in 1973 and pursued particle physics research over a long and fruitful career until his retirement in 2006. He is remembered fondly by colleagues for his wisdom and wit, and he will be sadly missed.

The American Physical Society recently profiled December Martin, who earned her Physics BS degree from UC Davis in 2000. As the APS piece describes, she went on to a career in biotechnology and has done substantial volunteering as well.

The Crocker Nuclear Laboratory Cyclotron has been operating for over 50 years, but it’s still finding useful and exciting applications in the 21st Century.

Victoria Strait has received a Graduate Student Travel Award from the Office of Graduate Studies.
