Jack Gunion Elected Fellow of the AAAS

27_gunion.jpegCongratulations to Professor Emeritus Jack Gunion on this great honor of being elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The citation reads,

"For contributions spanning more than 40 years in research and education, including co-leading the particle physics community toward discovery and understanding of the most fundamental particle interactions in our universe."

Professor Mike Mulhearn shared his own congratulations and thanks to Professor Gunion for his notable achievements:

"There are precious few physicists that have provided such pivotal scientific leadership. With his past work, Gunion successfully guided my own field of experimental particle physics toward one of our primary objectives, the discovery of the Higgs Boson, by combining profound and essential phenomenological insights with a practical understanding of our experimental challenges.  The mark of an exceptional physicist is that their ideas eventually become conventional wisdom, a standard Gunion's work easily meets.  This is a richly deserved honor, and I am looking forward to seeing the experimental fruit of his more recent endeavors.  Bravo!!!"
